Reduction of Brucellosis Serological Testing Services for
Out-of-State Animals
After December 31, 2009, the Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC)
State-Federal Laboratory will no longer provide serological tests
for brucellosis on out-of-state animals
for:
·
tests for sale
·
show
·
certified/validated herds
·
interstate movement
·
international export
Private veterinary practitioners will need to make arrangements with
a commercial diagnostic laboratory
for these testing services provided.
The TAHC State-Federal Laboratory will continue
to provide brucellosis serological diagnostic services on cattle
samples (but not swine samples) submitted by regulatory personnel
for:
·
MCI tracebacks
·
slaughter surveillance
·
BRT suspicious herds
·
abortions
Although the TAHC State-Federal Laboratory would like to continue
existing services, there is no mechanism for the TAHC to charge for
services that are no longer supported by the USDA-APHIS-VS
Brucellosis program.
At this time, there is no change for brucellosis testing services
for Texas animals. Texas’ Brucellosis program testing services
currently are fully supported by the USDA-APHIS-VS Brucellosis
program.
